Lee Teng-hui: "nation-to-nation" relations
(the most recent articles first):
In an interview with German "Deutsche Welle" radio on Friday 9 July 1999, Taiwan's President Lee Teng-hui defined the island's relations with mainland China as "nation-to-nation relations."

The Taiwan authorities subsequently indicated they would revise the "unification guidelines", which presently define the Kuomintang's approach to relations with China.

In a letter dated July 21st 1999, four prominent Senators wrote President Clinton a forceful letter, urging him to be more supportive of Taiwan.
